About Us

Born in a garage in SF

Matt and Emily started Matilda’s Bloombox in 2016 in their garage in San Francisco. They have a long history of working with flowers; Matt’s family immigrated to San Francisco from Genoa in 1912 and started growing blooms in San Leandro. The goal of Matilda’s Bloombox has been consistent since the beginning; to support local growers. 'Local' includes farmers across the US, but many of those growers are in Northern and Southern California.

Shortly after the arrival of Matilda, Matt and Emily's daughter, the new parents decided to go after their dream of launching a flower business that would give back to farmers at a local level. Matt knew the best way to do this was to offer one box, filled to the brim with blooms each week.  Most farmers only grow one or two varieties of flowers, so this means they can buy large quantities of their stock every week, and support different growers with each arrangement. Emily felt that the boxes needed to be affordable in order to buy as much as possible from the farmers. The price was set at $39, including delivery, and has stayed at that price even with rising inflation.

Today, Matt and Emily’s little flower business has grown so much from its initial community in the Bay Area. Now, they deliver thousands of boxes each week across California, Texas, and soon Nevada. They no longer operate out of their garage in San Francisco although all their neighbors do have their deliveries! Thank you, 94127 community, for putting up with the massive refrigerated trucks that delivered flowers to the garage in the early morning! The family has also grown and now includes Matilda (5), Humphrey (3), and Daphne, who is currently only 4 months but growing so quickly
